Newsletter October 2013

October meeting.  Our autumn programme of evening meetings continues next  Friday 18 October 2013 at 7.30pm, when Margaret Fisher and Pearl Mitchell will be talking about “Foxcote House, Ilmington: its Hidden History.”

AGM and Supper.  As previously announced, our 26th AGM and Supper will now be held on Friday 21 March 2014, beginning at 7.00pm (and not as scheduled on your programme card).  Friday, 17 January 2014 will now be a normal meeting evening, when Deborah Hayter will be telling us about “The 17th Century Village” and asking “Who was in charge?”

Bring a friend.  Spread the word and introduce someone else to our interesting talks and sociable meetings over the next few months.  If they cannot come next week, 2013 still offers:

Friday, 15 November 2013     “A Tudor Christmas” with Adrienne Grinyer and Ingrid Walden

Friday 13 December 2013     “Entertainment in the 18th Century” by Chris Upton

Subscriptions and programme cards 2014.  The present annual subscription of £7-50 per person represents phenomenal value, as does the visitor fee of £2-00 per meeting.  These rates are likely to continue unchanged, when subscriptions for 2014 fall due in January.  The new programme card for 2014 should be available at the February meeting when Brian Lewis will be talking about “Norton: the School and the Foundation.”

Raising the K&DLHG profile.  As part of a campaign to raise awareness of the Group’s activities in and around the village our chairman, David Freke, will be taking a small exhibition to the Sealed Knot event at the Kineton Sports and Social Club on Sunday, 20 October 2013; he will welcome the company of any other members who are free to join him during the day.  David is also taking a display to the  Uncovering Our Past  event at Warwick School on 26 October, which forms part of the Community Archaeology Day.

Saturday 19 October 2013.  The Official Launch of the Battle of Edgehill Information Hub takes place at Radway Village Hall at 11.30am (until about 2.00pm).  If you would like to seehow the plans for this new information hub are progressing and meet and discuss the project over a glass of wine and some nibbles, please get in touch with Brian Dowthwaite on wbdouthwaite@btinternet.comor call on 01926 640314 as soon as possible.
