Next meeting.  On Friday 19 April 2013 Tim Porter will be talking to us about “The Hwicce: Anglo-Saxons of the Cotswolds.”

Summer Outings. Details of the four outings planned for the Summer months were circulated in newsletters last month. Tickets for these go on sale at the April meeting. 

Friday 21 June 2013, evening visit to Bagington Castle and Church;

Friday 19 July 2013, evening visit to Guy’s Cliffe House, Warwick;

Saturday 10 August 2013, full-day coach outing to the River and Rowing Museum at Henley on

Thames;

Saturday 7 September 2013, a full day outing to the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas,

Staffordshire, using the minibus provided or own transport

There will be as second chance to purchase tickets at the meeting in May.

May meeting.  Martin Way is returning to Kineton to tell us about “Heavy Horse Trappings.”  Many members will remember his previous visit two years ago when, in full period costume, he entertained us with “Glimmer in the Dark – a celebration of art and craftsmanship in Anglo-Saxon England.”

Tuesday 16 April 2013 Kineton
James Kerr, President of the Kineton Camera Club, will be giving a presentation on the history of the Battle fields of the First World War and will accompany his talk with his photographic record of his recent visit.  The Camera Club would like to invite K&DLHG members to this meeting in the Village Hall at 7.30pm.  The £2.00 charge to visitors includes coffee and biscuits.

April to October           Stow on the Wold

On the first Thursday of each month from April to October, the Captain Christie Crawfurd English Civil War Collection, one of the finest collections of contemporary Civil war paintings in the country, can be viewed at St Edwards Hall, Stow-on-the-Wold, GL54 1AF, between 10am and 2.30pm.  Cost: £3 for adults, free for children

Saturday 18 May 2013 Long Itchington
A study afternoon “In Search of Medieval Long Itchington” will be held in Long Itchington Community Centre between 2.00 and 4.30pm.  Further details on the flyer below.

    In Search of Medieval Long Itchington

Tutor: Dr John Hunt.

What did medieval Long Itchington and the surrounding area look like on the eve of the Black Death; how many people lived there, and how did they make their livings; what was the manor like; what traces remain of Long Itchington’s medieval landscape?

These questions and others will be discussed in this short workshop. Exploring aspects of medieval Long Itchington through parish, manor and vill to reconstruct the nature of life and society here in the medieval period.
