Newsletter February 2013

To all members on the K&DLHG mailing list

Next meeting.  On Friday 15 February Stephen Laing, curator at the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, will be talking to us about “Women and the Motor Industry”.

Subscriptions for the new 2013-14 season, still only £7-50 per person, fall due at that meeting.  In return for your payment you will receive the new programme card listing the topics and speakers for the next twelve months, as revealed at the AGM and now on the website.

AGM & Supper.  Despite the atrocious weather 31 people, including our new President and his wife, managed to attend the AGM and enjoy the traditional Supper afterwards.  Although the accounts for the AGM and Supper already show a small deficit, your new committee has agreed to make a refund of £5-00 person available to those who had booked for the Supper but were prevented from attending.  This refund can be claimed from the Treasurer at the February meeting.

Summer Outings.  The first news of outings being planned for June, July and August will be given at the February meeting.  Full details will follow in a Newsletter in March, while tickets will go on sale at the April and May meetings.

March meeting.  On Friday 15 March Stephen Wass will be telling us about The Archaeology of Farnborough Hall Estate.

Information requested.  As members living in Kineton and Combroke may have already read in this month’s Outlook, the Kineton Parish Council has asked K&DLHG for help in assembling the story surrounding the wartime use of the allotments in the area of King John’s Mound, much of it now under Castle Road.  It will be appreciated if anyone with knowledge of allotments and pig sties on or around The Mound or Castle Road and up the side of Pittern Hill towards the stables will contact me (01926-640545) or Graeme Bassett (01926-640805).

Day School.  On Monday 11 March our chairman, David Freke, will be wearing another of his many hats when he helps lead a Day School on ‘Town and Country in Medieval Warwickshire.’  Further details on the attached flyer.

Website. As mentioned above, full K&DLHG programme details are available on the the upcoming events page, so why not visit it now.

With best wishes
