4. Honorary President.  In the last newsletter I reported that Lord Willoughby de Broke’s five-year term of office as Honorary President will come to an end at our An General Meeting in January 2013, and that he does not wish to seek reappointment for another five year term.  Your committee has, therefore, approached Dr Robert (Bob) Bearman, MBE, FRHistS, who lives in Butlers Marston and is a well-known local historian and writer on Shakespearean biography, who recently received a ‘Personal Achievement’ award from the British Association for Local History for his work over the last forty years.  He has also spoken to the Group at meetings in the past and has been guest of honour at an AGM Supper.

Bob has indicated that he would be honoured to serve as our next president if elected by the membership under the terms of our constitution.  Accordingly, notice of the committee’s intention to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting at the beginning of our meeting on Friday 14 December, at which this proposal will be put to the membership, will be formally given at our November meeting.

This notice will be repeated in next month’s newsletter.

5.This month’s meeting is on Friday 16 November2012 when Bruce Smith will be talking about Drove Roads in the South Midlands.

6. AGM and Supper 18 January 2013.  Tickets for the AGM Supper will be on sale at our meeting on Friday 16 November, Ticket price for the Supper £11-50 per person.

7. Butlers Marston: its history through its houses.  Also on sale at this meeting will be Dr Robert ‘Bob’ Bearman’s new book tracing the history of this small Warwickshire village through a study of its standing buildings.  Price £5-00, it includes 22 photographs and a foldout map.
